My Story
Hemanta Sarmah was born on 16 April 1979 in Assam. He comes from a family of freedom fighters. His father, Late Gobindra Sarmah, and his mother, Kiranbala Devi, taught him the value of honesty, courage, and service to society from a young age.
He studied Assamese at Guwahati University and also completed Mass Communication and Journalism. His journey in journalism started very early. In 1998, he began working as a reporter and slowly built his career through hard work and dedication.
Over the years, he worked with many well-known Assamese newspapers such as Ajir Dainik Batori, Assamese Daily Aji, Weekly Boodbar, Joined The Sentinel Group – Ajir Asom, Daily Newspaper Adin. In 2013, he started his own Assamese daily newspaper, Gana Sangbad, which is registered with RNI and approved by the Government.
With more than 26 years of experience, Hemanta Sarmah is known as a senior and accredited journalist. He is also an active RTI activist and uses the Right to Information to help common people and raise important social issues.
Along with journalism, he is a writer who has written 11 novels, 7 story books, and 2 poetry books. His life shows a strong connection between writing, truth, and service to society.
